The Electric Tramcar Museum's mission is to preserve, maintain and interpret anefacts which both illustrate and represent the history and development of Portos urban public transport on rails, all for the public's sake.
The Electric Tramcar Museum offers you the chance to discover, to experience and to learn more about the history, development and socioeconomic impact of public transport on rails in the city of Porto.
Porto was the first city of Portugal and of the Iberian Peninsula to dispose of this type of vehicles. MCE has a colection of Electric Tramcars and other support cars that circulated in Porto since September 12 of 1895. The old American Car - moved by animal traction - that circulated for the first time in Porto on May 15 of 1872 is the crown jewel of this collection.
Installed in the old Termo-Electric Central of Massarelos, the Museum still includes a headquarters of energy transformation that dates from the beginning of the century XX.
An opportunity to learn, to try and to know the history, the development and the socio-economic impact of the public transportations closely on tracks of the city of Porto.
